“The Conversation Your Joints Wish You’d Had Sooner”
Have you ever gotten out of bed and thought, “When did that start happening?”
Maybe your knees feel a little stiffer. Your hips don't move quite as easily. Or perhaps the things that once felt effortless, like walking, exercising, travelling, playing with your grandchildren, now take a little more effort.
It's easy to tell ourselves, “I'm just getting older.”
But after this week's Wellness Wednesday conversation with Dr Janet, I found myself thinking about that differently.
What if we started supporting our bodies before they began asking us to?
It's More Than Just Your Joints
When something hurts, we naturally focus on that particular area.
A sore knee becomes a “knee problem.”
A stiff shoulder becomes a “shoulder problem.”
But every joint, tendon, ligament, cartilage and connective tissue in our body is made up of cells.
And those cells need the right environment to function well.
That means healthy movement isn't simply about taking care of your knees or hips. It's about supporting the cellular processes that help our entire body protect, repair and function.
This is one of the reasons cellular health has become such an important part of the way I think about healthy ageing.
Your Body Is Working For You Every Day
We rarely think about what's happening inside our cells.
Yet every second, they're producing energy, repairing damage, communicating and responding to the environment around us.
As we age, some of our natural protective and repair processes can become less efficient. At the same time, modern life can expose us to additional stressors like poor sleep, chronic stress, processed foods and environmental factors.
That's why I believe prevention matters so much.
We shouldn't wait until something hurts before we start caring for the systems that support it.
Movement Is Part of the Solution
One of my favourite reminders from the conversation was simple:
Movement is medicine.
It doesn't have to mean an intense workout.
It can be a walk around the block. A few extra minutes on your feet. Walking around the mall. Gardening. Stretching. Playing with your children or grandchildren.
Small movements count.
Because staying active isn't only about fitness. It's about maintaining the freedom to live your life.
To travel.
To explore.
To play.
To get outside.
To do the things that make you smile.
Don't Forget the Bigger Picture
We also talked about collagen, connective tissue and gut health, and I loved how the conversation kept coming back to one simple idea:
Everything is connected.
Your gut helps your body process and absorb nutrients.
Collagen supports connective tissues throughout the body.
Your cells are constantly working to protect and maintain your tissues.
And movement helps keep your body functioning.
There isn't always one isolated piece to focus on.
Sometimes, we need to look at the whole picture.
Start Before Your Body Has to Ask
The older I get, the more I believe that healthy aging isn't about trying to stop time.
It's about making sure we can continue to enjoy the time we have.
I want to keep moving.
I want to travel.
I want to spend time with the people I love.
I want to wake up and feel capable of participating in my own life.
And that's why I'm so passionate about learning more about cellular health and prevention.
You don't have to change everything today.
Start with one small thing.
Take the walk.
Drink the water.
Choose real food.
Get some sleep.
Listen to your body.
Because perhaps the most important question isn't:
“How do I fix what's hurting?”
Maybe it's:
“What can I do today to help my body stay healthy for tomorrow?”
That's where healthy ageing begins.

A Little Reminder From Me ❤️
Please don't wait until your body is hurting to start taking care of it.
Your health is something you live in every single day, and you deserve to feel your best for as many of those days as possible.
Take a walk. Drink some water. Nourish your body. Get some rest. Listen when your body is asking you to slow down.
And most importantly, remember that you are worth taking care of.
Your future self will thank you.
With love,
Monique
